Race for bloody life.

I was just watching telly and an advert came up for race for life. I'd completely forgetter about this gem of a story. Story is that my sister and her foster mum had entered the local race for life about 3 years ago ! They had been training moderately doing long dog walks and had reached an average of 3k ( the race for life is 5k )
It was 2 large laps around the edge of a park and thousands had turned up to cheer. Milly all nonchalont, turns up on the start line head to toe in pink with a sparkly cowboy hat and feather boer. Maggie, her foster mum, turns up for a casual 5k walk in the park. The start noise goes off and my sister pegs it.  She was no athlete but she keeps up a moderate jog while heavily out of breathe and Maggie struggles behind so shocked by milly's sudden attempt at first place.

Milly is a Lazy brat. I mean really bloody lazy. I remember when Milly cam down to London she just didn't like walking anywhere. We went out for dinner in Soho and after a few drinks between me and a friend and a fake slice of birthday cake ordered by my sister we skipped danced jumped and jogged back to Oxford circus. Suddenly after seeing the rush of people walking down into Oxford circus milly slowed down starts panting and holding heavily onto the rail. People ar giving her a wide birth in the throng of commuters and she reaches out to hold onto mine and my friends arm as if to support her. We get to the bottom of the barely one flight of stairs steps and she wipes her forehead as if exhausted.

Anyway it was a rainy day and luckily the rain had held off for the first half of the race. After completing the first lap and a very good pace, it starts absolutely hammering it down with rain. I see in the far distance a sparkly cowboy hat dash under a tree and sit Down. And she sits, and she waits and she watches-  the majority of sodden racers pass by. She refuses to move until the rain passes.  Finally she gets up and starts walking very very slowly amongst those in wheelchairs or physical disabilities. She continues at this pace amongst the last 30 or so until the last 400m.

The event was beinf covered by the annoying local radio station and newspaper. A person weaves along the last 20 with a microphone over loud speaker and approaches a few including milly asking there age name ect. Milly suddenly drops back into the last 3 the other 2 being wheelchairs pushed by carers. She slows taking large panting breathes resting her hands o. Her knees pausing and drinking water. She stops suddenly in the last 100 m fake mopping her forehead and drops severely behind. The crowd go wild and the radio dj shouts to give milly a cheer " MILLY MILLY MILLY" the crowd shouts and milly does the last 50 metres waving at the crowd. She arrives at the finish IN LAST PLACE  line having her picture taken for the local paper dropping to her knees lime an Olympic athletes after the 100m.

Cheeky bloody wench. It's about the attention.
